How We Rated These Mattresses

There is a lot to consider when rating mattresses such as their lifespan, the quality of the materials, and how the mattress actually performs. We’ve compiled a list of important features for each mattress and did an extensive review of the value a buyer is getting for the cost of the mattress, the customer service provided by the company, and customer reviews.

When looking at the value of a mattress we consider the price in relation to the features and qualities that make that mattress exceptional. We also consider what the average price for a certain type of mattress should be, and what adds to the value of that mattress.

The customer service provided by a company can make or break your mattress buying experience and so we’ve factored that into our reviews. Feedback provided in customer reviews is also key, as it can give details on the performance of the product and the public perception of the company.

Top Rated Mattress Ranked

After reviewing numerous companies we’ve come up with a list of the 10 best mattresses based on their overall rating. We’ve taken several factors into account, but customer service, customer feedback, and value were strong contributors.

Excellent

The Avocado mattress is an excellent choice for those looking for an eco-friendly option. They are located here in the United States and have been making mattresses since 2015. The company has obtained their reputation by handcrafting all of their mattresses without using any harmful ingredients like polyurethane foams, chemical flame retardants, chemical adhesives, or memory foams (all of which can be considered toxic).

They lack a lot of the typical ingredients that some mattresses have, but their comfort level is just as good, if not better. If you would purchase one, you should expect a firm yet gentle support that can be augmented with a pillow top. This type of support is great for fitting the needs of all different types of sleepers, so you never have to worry whether it will be a good match for your sleeping style or not.

Anyone looking to go green or has already done so finds Avocado to be refreshing because they do an excellent job at keeping out harmful ingredients while still maintaining the comfort and support you need. With a decent price and great return policy to side, Avocado has certainly made a presence for itself within the mattress industry.

Who Should Use It: Someone looking for an eco-friendly alternative.

The Purple mattress has received a lot of attention lately for their innovative polymer inside their mattress that adds both increased support, and flexibility for all sleeping positions. The unique foam and steel coil design create a high-quality mattress with breathability and a long life.

This mattress works best with stretchy mattress covers and sheets to allow for optimal movement of sleepers and overall comfort. The Purple mattress is known best for its “hug-like” feel and is suitable for people of all weights.

Motion isolation is better than in other innerspring mattresses which can be attributed to the innovated foam and purple polymer grid layer that makes the Purple mattress super comfortable.

Although the Purple mattress is more pricey than other top-rated mattresses on this list, these high-quality mattresses made in the USA are a great example of excellent craftsmanship built to last longer than other traditional mattresses.

Who Should Use It: Ideal for someone looking for innovative materials that are cool, breathable, and offer great support with a comparable price to traditional mattresses.

Saatva is a mattress company that offers a premium night's rest for desperate mattress seekers everywhere. Thanks to three different comfort levels, customers are given the ability to choose a firmness that best suits their sleeping style.

Part of what makes Saatva what it is today is their responsive customer support. Customer support is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You can reach them by email, a message system on the company’s website, by phone, or even via live chat.

Many consider their mattresses to provide a lot of comfort and motion isolation while they sleep, which is great since these are two of the top factors to consider while looking for a potential mattress. As a company, Saatva is young compared to its competitors. Since they are younger, it is hard to say how long their mattresses will last. Considering their quality, though, it's safe to say these mattresses should last customers more than the average time expected.

Who Should Use It: Perfect for someone who is looking for a mattress that provides quality support for a reasonable price.

The Leesa mattress is another great example of layered foam creating a supportive and breathable mattress for great sleep. With an optional upgradeable cover and 100-day trial period, buyers can expect to get about 6 years out of their Leesa.

The Leesa mattress does not do the best job on motion isolation when it comes to foam mattresses, but it does come in at a lighter weight than some of its competitors. Its firmly at a respectable price point for the quality and durability delivered, and many owners are very satisfied despite the company being founded in 2014.

This mattress is great for those who may suffer from back pain, or for those who need more support when they sleep. It’s appropriate for all weights, and owners find it cool, easy to move on, and quiet.

The Tuft and Needle Mattress is made from very high-quality materials and contains only two layers of synthetic foam. Founded in 2013, the company prides itself on their affordable luxury mattresses that are suitable for use on any bed frame.

Customers love the extended 100-day trial period, and the totally free returns should they change their mind. The simplicity of the Tuft and Needle design also grants this mattress a few additional years of life without compromising comfort.

With their zoned design of varying types of supportive foam, owners enjoy top-notch motion isolation, support, and pain relief. Competent

Lull is another mattress-in-a-box brand that aims to appeal to all sorts of sleepers. With a customer-first approach, they want you to be just as comfortable in every position you try.

They are a lot more firm than other foam-only mattresses we’ve reviewed, but not so much that it starts to create pressure points. The motion is virtually non-existent as well, which is surprising considering that it doesn't have as much softness to suppress the motion.

Public perceptions surrounding Lull are happy and customers are generally happy with their purchases. If you were to encounter a problem with your mattress, Lull will reimburse you 100%.

The price is on the lower end of the spectrum, though it’s not the cheapest option either. When comparing it to other mattress options, it falls somewhere near the middle. If you’re looking for a bed that’s firm, comfortable, and keeps motion transfer to a minute level, Lull should make the top of your list.

Who Should Use It: Lull is ideal for someone who has trouble getting comfortable or a restless partner who never lays still while they sleep.
