Daily Harvest is a food delivery subscription service that provides fresh ingredients to your doorstep. Unlike other meal subscription services, Daily Harvest focuses on superfoods, such as smoothies and harvest bowls. Therefore, the meal service is best for those who are looking to eat healthy while on-the-go.
Daily Harvest was founded by Rachel Drori. The company is a big advocate of freezing fruits and vegetables within hours of harvesting. Their ingredients, such as fruits and veggies, are flash-frozen within 24 hours of harvesting, which the company says provides more nutritional value. Let’s evaluate the products offered and how Daily Harvest stacks up against other meal subscription services.
How Does It Work?
When purchasing a Daily Harvest plan, customers will first enter their zip code and email address, at which point Daily Harvest will confirm if they deliver in your area. If they do, you are permitted to continue to the next page, where you’ll select your plan. Daily Harvest delivers to approximately 95% of the United States.
Customers can choose between 6, 9, 12, and 24 cups each week. The price per cup decreases when more cups are ordered. Customers can also select a monthly plan of 24 cups, delivered once per month. Because the ingredients are frozen, they will stay fresh for the entire month as long as you have room in your freezer.
After selecting your plan of choice, you can begin filling your box. Daily Harvest allows you to choose between building a custom box or filling the box with their bestsellers. If you choose to fill the box with the best sellers, the box is automatically filled with six different smoothies, ranging from Power Smoothies to Booster Smoothies. You can then adjust the quantity of each smoothie flavor.
If you choose to build your own box, you’ll be able to choose from at least 39 different options. Customers have the ability to mix-and-match different foods, including
- Harvest Bowls
- Chia Parfaits
- Overnight Oats
Daily Harvest also allows their customers to filter down their food options. Do you really like avocados but don’t like apples? Do you have any specific dietary needs? All of that information can be entered to help craft the perfect box for you.
Options from Daily Harvest are always vegan, and pretty much always feature organic fruits and veggies, among other ingredients. If they must use a sweetener in a recipe, it’s typically dates. Customers will typically have to add their own liquid base to the smoothie, which could be either water, coconut water, coconut milk, or almond milk.
The deliveries are packed in dry ice, ensuring that they’ll stay frozen throughout transit. The company has said that their products will last up to three months in the freezer. The company also provides advice on how to blend your smoothies.
As mentioned, Daily Harvest believes in freezing all of their fruits and vegetables. The company says that this eliminates “discovering, researching, hunting down, and preparing the stuff we know we should be eating” but don’t have the time to. The company’s foods are unrefined and unprocessed while offering the convenience of being frozen.
Frozen fruits and veggies also tend to be more nutritious than fresh foods. The company provides information that states frozen blueberries have up to 200% more Vitamin C than fresh blueberries. Additionally, frozen spinach has 25% more vitamin E, and frozen cauliflower has 50% more antioxidants than their fresh counterparts.
The price breakdown for a Daily Harvest is fairly straightforward. Free shipping is included in all Daily Harvest orders.
- 6 Cups per Week costs $7.99 per cup, or $47.94
- 9 Cups per Week costs $7.75 per cup, or $69.75
- 12 Cups per Week costs $7.49 per cup, or $89.88
- 24 Cups per Week/Month costs $6.99 per cup, or $167.76
Daily Harvest offers flexible frequency, allowing their customers to skip or cancel their delivery at any time. If customers wish to skip a delivery, they must make changes for 6pm ET on the Saturday before their box is scheduled to ship.
Daily Harvest reviews are very mixed. On the one hand, a Business Insider review was very complimentary of the service, satisfied with the convenience and taste the smoothies offered. The review went as far as to say that Daily Harvest helped them solve nearly all of their healthy food obstacles.
Other customers are much warier when providing their Daily Harvest reviews. Customers on the website Trust Pilot were generally much more dissatisfied with the service, which averaged a two-star rating from 37 reviews. Many of these customers were dissatisfied with how difficult it is to cancel or suspend your subscription.
Customers complained that they would try to cancel or suspend their service, only to find that their account had been reactivated and that the company wouldn’t issue a refund. Most of the complaints were focused on these processes, instead of the smoothies themselves, although some were dissatisfied with the smoothies’ taste. Overall, reviews on Daily Harvest’s taste were slightly above average.

Overall Customer Rating
Based on customer reviews, Daily Harvest averages a 6/10. As mentioned, this has less to do with the smoothies themselves and more to do with the company’s payment structure and customer service. As a relatively new company, this will hopefully be alleviated over time.

Recipes Available At Daily Harvest
With nearly 40 options available, where should we begin? Daily Harvest lists each product’s key ingredients, nutrition facts, and instructions on how to blend. We’ll give you our favorite from each category, but allow you to explore the rest by clicking the links below.
Our favorite smoothie was the Strawberry + Peach Reviver Smoothie, which contains organic strawberries, peaches, raspberries, goji berries, and flax seeds.
Our favorite harvest bowl was the Quinoa + Chipotle Harvest Bowl, which contains quinoa, purple corn, and organic mesquite, cacao, and kale.
For dessert, our favorite sundae was the Chocolate Brownie Batter Sundae, which contains organic coconut, cacao, black beans, hemp protein, and pea protein.
Daily Harvest vs The Competition
Daily Harvest is different from other cook-from-home meal delivery services like Blue Apron and Home Chef. These services offer meals that must be cooked, typically for dinner. Daily Harvest focuses more on snacks and on-the-go meals that you can enjoy at any time of the day. Their direct competition appears to be Green Blender.
The most notable difference between Green Blender and Daily Harvest is the fact that Green Blender does not freeze their food. If you’re a believer in the science behind flash-freezing foods, then Daily Harvest may be the better option.
Green Blender also requires customers to rinse and chop their ingredients before using them. Daily Harvest allows customers to pour the contents of their pre-portioned cup into the blender, add a liquid base, and go.
Furthermore, Green Blender does not provide as much flexibility with their recipes. Each week customers receive five new smoothie recipes. Each recipe contains the ingredients needed to make two smoothies, for a total of ten smoothies a week.
Green Blender, however, is significantly cheaper. 10 servings amount to $49 per week, opposed to $69.75 for nine Daily Harvest servings. It costs $176 for a monthly order from Green Blender, which provides 40 servings. Daily Harvest’s monthly subscription is technically $10 cheaper, but you receive 16 fewer servings.
Is It Right For Me?
If you live a hectic lifestyle and are always on the go, Daily Harvest could be perfect for you. We appreciated the simplicity the service provides, allowing smoothies to be ready in less than a minute. Daily Harvest could be a great option if you’re looking to eat healthier, practice portion control, and eat more healthy fruits and vegetables.
However, if you’re tight on money, the subscription service may not be right for you. Although it’s convenient, $7.99 for a smoothie is pricey. The cost goes down considerably if you order more than six smoothie cups at a time, but even then, it may still be expensive for some. Consider using a coupon code to try the service for a week. If you like it, see if the service can realistically fit in your budget.

Daily Harvest will provide three free cups with the code THREEFREE. Additionally, Daily Harvest currently offers a referral program. The top of their website states, “Gives your friends 3 free cups + Get 3 free!”
Daily Harvest is a great way to get nutrition on-the-go, with customers able to make smoothies and other similar products in less than a minute. The variety that Daily Harvest offers is unmatched, but the company needs to find a way to improve its costs and customer service before truly being able to excel.
