How many of you find yourself spending less and less time with your kids as they get older? Whether its busy schedules or time with friends, as children grow up, the opportunities to do things together are fewer and further between. If you are looking for a creative and fun way to spend time together, consider subscribing to Doodle Crate.

Part of KiwiCo, Doodle Crate was founded by Sandra Oh Lin in 2011. It is a subscription service that brings an invitation for your kids to express their creativity each month when their box is delivered. Doodle Crate is designed to help kids who are nine and older build confidence with hands-on activities and crafting materials.

If you want to learn more about Doodle Crate, this review will provide you with all the information to decide if it is right for you.

What Makes Doodle Crate Unique?

Doodle Crate is unique to other subscription services because it is designed for older kids. The parent company, KiwiCo, has several different subscription options that appeal to kids of all ages. For kids who are between 9 and 16 years old, there are two options. The Tinker crate is focused on science and math, while Doodle Crate is focused on creativity and the arts.

Instead of just being another art box with simple crafts, Doodle Crate encourages creativity by providing craft projects that cater to many different kids, not just kids who excel in art. Each month, all of the supplies needed to complete a project are sent to your door, with detailed instructions, and online videos for extra help. Some of the previous crates have taught children how to do SUMI-E wash painting, how to create color-blocked candles, and how to make wooden clocks.

Pros Of Doodle Crate

As children get older, opportunities for crafting diminish, both at school and at home. Kids need creative outlets but often don’t have enough, or any, outlets for releasing it. Here are some of the most significant pros to Doodle Crate:

  • With the subscription, you get an adequately supplied activity.

  • Detailed instructions make it possible to complete.

  • Opportunity for quality time for your family.

  • High quality products.

  • No prep-time needed.

  • It is something for your kids to look forward to each month.

  • Creative activity for older kids.

Cons Of Doodle CRATE

There are plenty of reasons Doodle Crate is fantastic for many families. Here are a few of the cons:

  • The subscription price ($19.95 a month or less) is costly for some, especially for parents who want multiple crates.

  • While it is supposed to be self-explanatory, kids may still need some help, especially younger kids.

  • If you want enough supplies for two kids, you will need to pay more for an add-on or subscribe to separate boxes.

How the Signup Process Works

If you feel like the Doodle Crate is right for you, signing up is easy on the website. There are several orange buttons that say, “Get Doodle Crate” on the homepage and when you click on one, you are taken to the signup area.

You can choose to pay monthly, three months, six months, or twelve months at a time. After you select your subscription payment option, you can personalize the crate, so it is addressed to the child you are purchasing it for. If you are ordering for multiple kids in one house, or even separate homes, you can click on the "save and add another address" link to add as many kids as you want.

After you’ve entered all information on the children you are purchasing for, you can then click on the orange checkout button, or if you want to check the site out more, there is a shopping cart located in the top right corner of the screen.

Checkout is simple, and subscriptions renew automatically. After you pay, your first subscription will be sent out within two days.

Pricing and Value

The price to get started is $19.95 which will enrol you in a monthly subscription. If you chose the monthly option, you would be billed $19.95 every month.

If you choose to pay for three months at a time, you will be billed $59.85 every three months.

For people who want to pay six or twelve months at a time, you will receive a discounted monthly amount. For six months, you will be charged $111.00 every six months, which is equivalent to $18.50 a month.

The twelve-month membership will cost $203.40 at checkout, which amounts to $16.95 a month.

Public Perception

A common theme among many reviewers is that Doodle Crate is great for kids and provides excellent value for the price. People who gave it as a gift mentioned that the subscription ended up being a great gift idea, a favorite for kids and parents, and a gift that keeps on giving.

It is rated 4.5 stars out of 5.

The few comments that did not give a 5-star rating mentioned Doodle Crate being more advanced for some kids who are around 9 and ten years old. Those reviews expressed pleasure at the quality and creativity of the subscription but wished for something a little more self-explanatory for younger kids.
