Honest Beauty offers a free trial to anyone hesitant to sign up. With 6 samples of their most-loved products, it's a great way to get to know the brand.

If you're an avid makeup user, you will most likely agree that you have to be careful when choosing your cosmetics. There are many companies out there that will try to trick you into thinking their products are good for you, when in reality they are the complete opposite. This is where Honest Beauty comes in.

Jessica Alba was frustrated in trying to find a brand safe enough to use on her kids. Instead of settling for less, she decided to  provide her own solution, thus The Honest Company was born.

The Honest Company is a brand that places value on consciousness, community, transparency and design.

Over the years they have launched many successful products, and in this review I will be discussing one of their newest additions - Honest Beauty.

How Does It Work?

Honest Beauty is an online subscription program in which each month you receive a box containing three beauty items of your choice. You can either start with a free trial or dive right into the program. If you're new to Honest Beauty, here's a step-by-step on how their trials work.

  • Step 1: Get a trial of 6 items including skincare, haircare and makeup
  • Step 2: Try out the products for 7 days
  • Step 3: If you are satisfied with your products, create your first bundle by selecting 3 out of over 100 products

They say that the trial is free, but they slipped in a $5.95 shipping fee which is arguably high. If your willing to pay the fee, the rest of the process is super simple, and members get to keep the products they test.

You have 7 days after receiving your trial to cancel for any reason before you are automatically enrolled into the monthly beauty subscription.

  • Cosmetics are natural-looking
  • Free trial for new users
  • Generally quick shipping

  • Small sample sizes
  • High subscription rate

Plans & Pricing

Unlike other beauty box programs like Ipsy, Honest Beauty only has one subscription plan. For $50 a month members will receive 3 products of their choice (plus 25% off any additional items added to the bundle).

For many, including myself, $50 seems a little steep. They aren't even the full size. Instead, they are less than adequate sample sizes. It would be different if the samples were worth that kind of money, but they're not.

Customer Reviews

In Honest Beauty reviews, customer reviews varied. They either loved it or hated it - there was no middle ground.

Those who loved it said that they loved the feel of the products. The makeup applies effortlessly and creates a natural look on the skin.

Others claimed that the products were not as great as advertised. Their high expectations for this newly innovative brand fell short.

Honest Beauty vs The Competition

There are many types of beauty box subscriptions out there, but there is not one that stands above the others as a top competitor against Honest Beauty.

What sets apart Honest Beauty from others is that their products are unique to their company. No one else solely provides products from their line. Websites like Ipsy or Sephora Play provide subscribers with products from a variety of brands.

Are Honest Beauty Products Safe?

The products you can choose from are not from well known brands, but from their own Honest Beauty line. This usually isn't a problem for subscribers because many like the natural feel and look of their products. Members can choose from things like skincare, haircare, or even cosmetics.

Each product has taken years to develop with advice and insight from top makeup artists, cosmetic scientists, and beauty professionals.

So if all this care has been put into each product, then what's the issue? The big debate is quality.

Over the past several years, Jessica Alba has received several lawsuits concerning the quality products. The labels say that they're all-natural, but some customers begged to differ.  A consumer claimed that a number of products contain “unnatural” and “synthetic” ingredients, while another stated that The Honest Company sunscreen product was ineffective in its purpose.

While there were bad claims made against Honest Beauty's products, there were some that loved their products. I think it's safe to say proceed at your own risk.

a consumer claimed that a number of products contain “unnatural” and “synthetic” ingredients. It also states that The Honest Company sunscreen product is “ineffective.”

Is It Right For Me?

Someone who wants to try out some clean, natural-looking cosmetics would love this brand. If you're counting on it being all-natural, though, that's up for debate.

That being said, if you're looking for products with a guaranteed effectiveness, then Honest Beauty might not be for you. With all the bad reviews, it's like taking a shot in the dark. That's why many current subscribers have had a trial run before fully committing.

Personally I’ve liked the products so far.. I do agree that they could be cheaper though since they aren’t a name brand.
