Proper Usage

Zantac is used to help defend against ulcers in the stomach or intestine, and help lower acidity levels in the stomach.

Take Zantac exactly how is instructed on the prescription label, or as directed by a doctor. Do not use it in larger or smaller amounts, or for longer than what was recommended.

Do not crush, chew or break the tablet, and do not let it dissolve on your tongue. The 25-milligram effervescent tablet must be dissolved in at least 1 teaspoon of water before swallowing. The 150-milligram effervescent tablet should be dissolved in 6 to 8 ounces of water.

Allow the Zantac tablet to dissolve in water, and then drink the mixture. If you are giving this medication to a child, you can draw the liquid into a dropper and empty the dropper into the child's mouth until the entire mixture is gone.

If you are taking the liquid version, measure Zantac liquid with a special dose-measuring spoon or cup, not a regular table spoon. If you do not have this device, ask your pharmacist to provide you with one.

It may take up to 8 weeks before your symptoms start to fade. Keep using Zantac as directed and tell your doctor if you are seeing no improvement after 6 weeks of treatment.
